Who it’s for
For obstructive sleep apnea, Medicare covers a bilevel without backup rate only after CPAP has been tried and proven ineffective (BiPAP and ASV coverage). The device’s higher ceiling (25 vs 20 cmH2O) and larger exhale drop are the documented differences; whether you need them is your clinician’s call. See APAP vs CPAP vs BiPAP. It isn’t an ASV: ResMed’s guide indicates only the AirCurve 11 ASV for central or mixed apneas.
Verdict
From the documents, the AirCurve 11 VAuto is an AirSense 11 platform with true bilevel pressure up to 25 cmH2O and up to 10 cmH2O of pressure support. It costs about $790 more at the retailer we checked, so it makes sense only when your clinician prescribes bilevel therapy. Check your coverage first in our BiPAP and ASV Medicare guide.
