Fine print that matters
| Term | What we found |
|---|---|
| Start date | O2 Concepts counts from the original shipment date to the original purchaser. |
| Transfer | O2 Concepts’ warranty isn’t transferable; a used unit may have no maker warranty. |
| Receipts | O2 Concepts requires the original purchase receipt. |
| Inspection | O2 Concepts asks purchasers to inspect within 30 days of delivery. |
| Disposables | Cannulas, filters and tubing aren’t covered by O2 Concepts. |
| Tampering | Inogen’s manuals say removing the tamper-evident label voids the warranty. |
| Lifetime option | Inogen’s product pages list “3 Years or Lifetime” for the concentrator. |
Warranty vs service life
A long rated service life with a short warranty means you carry the repair risk in later years. The Rove 6 is rated for 8 years with a 3-year warranty; the OxyGo NEXT is rated for 5 years with a 5-year warranty. Inogen’s site attaches a condition to its 8 years (“when used less than 5 hours per day”), which its manuals don’t.
Before you buy
- Ask whether the price includes the standard or extended warranty.
- Confirm who handles repairs: the maker, the retailer or your oxygen supplier.
- For a used unit, assume no maker warranty unless the statement says otherwise (used concentrators).
- Budget for batteries: they’re rated for hundreds of cycles, not the device’s full life (POC battery life).
- If Medicare pays, you rent through a supplier rather than buying, and the supplier’s obligations apply instead (Medicare oxygen coverage).
Verdict
If warranty length is your priority, the OxyGo NEXT and Oxlife Independence lead at 5 years. CAIRE’s 3 years includes sieve beds. Inogen’s standard 3 years covers sieve beds for only 1 year, but its 8-year rated life is the longest, and a lifetime option is available.
