If you are one of the people who received a Philips DreamStation, you’re probably deciding between waiting for a recall remedy and replacing the machine. For new purchases, US buyers have one constraint the rest of the world doesn’t: a 2024 court order limits Philips’ ability to sell new sleep machines here.
Why new Philips machines are hard to buy in the US
In June 2021 Philips Respironics recalled certain CPAP, BiPAP and ventilator devices, including the DreamStation, because their PE-PUR sound-abatement foam can break down (FDA). On 9 April 2024, a federal court entered a consent decree that restricts, with limited exceptions, production and sale of new CPAP, BiPAP and other devices at several Philips Respironics facilities in Pennsylvania and California. Philips can’t resume those operations until it meets the decree’s requirements and the FDA confirms compliance in writing (FDA press release).
If you still use a recalled DreamStation, the FDA says to talk to your provider before you stop using it. For some patients stopping may involve greater risk than continuing (FDA recommendations). Our Philips recall guide covers registration and the remedy options.

| ResMed AirSense 11 AutoSet | $1,004 (cpap.com) | Auto CPAP | 4–20 cmH₂O | Heated, built-in | 1.1 kg | 27 dB | Not compared |
| React Health G3 X APAP | $873 (cpap.com) | Auto CPAP | 4–20 cmH₂O | Integrated, 360 mL | 3.75 lb (1.7 kg) | under 28 dB at 10 hPa | 5 years |

Prices are cpap.com’s listed cash prices on 13 October 2026, before tax. ResMed’s own shop listed the AirSense 11 with HumidAir and standard tubing at $1,054 the same day. Specs are as published by each manufacturer (React Health, Transcend), not measured by HHZ.
ResMed AirSense 11 AutoSet: the default replacement
The AirSense 11 is the closest like-for-like swap for a DreamStation Auto. It is a full-size auto CPAP with a built-in heated humidifier, CPAP, AutoSet and AutoSet for Her modes, and support for heated tubing. Your clinician will need to set your prescribed pressures on the new machine.
Choose it if you want the mainstream option your supplier and clinician are most likely to support.
React Health G3 X APAP: the lower-cost option
React Health lists the G3 X (G4600) with CPAP and AutoCPAP modes across 4–20 cmH₂O, an integrated humidifier with a 360 mL chamber, integrated heated tubing, and a 5-year warranty (React Health). React Health describes it as the first standard-size foam-free PAP available in the US. For DreamStation owners worried about foam, that is the obvious attraction, but it is the manufacturer’s claim. HHZ hasn’t tested it.
Choose it if price and warranty length matter most and you’re comfortable with a less common brand.
Travel units are not a home replacement
The ResMed AirMini and Transcend Micro 510 cover the same pressure range in a much smaller body. Neither has a water humidifier: both rely on waterless (HME) humidification. Use one as a second machine for travel, not as your only CPAP. Our travel CPAP guide compares them.
What to carry over from your DreamStation
- Your prescription and settings. Every machine on this list needs a prescription before it ships.
- Your mask, if it works. React Health states the G3 X is compatible with standard CPAP masks and tubing. Heated tubing is matched to each machine (ResMed sells its ClimateLineAir tubing per device family), so budget for a new tube. See CPAP masks if your mask needs replacing anyway.
- Your adherence history. If you’re on Medicare and still inside the first 90 days, the compliance rule applies whatever machine you use.
Paying for it
- Medicare: under CMS supplier guidance, a PAP device that is lost, stolen or irreparably damaged during its 5-year reasonable useful lifetime can be replaced without a new sleep test or trial. After 5 years, you need an in-person evaluation documenting continued use and benefit (CMS MLN).
- HSA or FSA: see HSA/FSA eligibility for CPAP and oxygen.
- Cash: see CPAP cost without insurance.
Verdict
Replace a DreamStation with the ResMed AirSense 11 AutoSet unless price is the deciding factor. If it is, the React Health G3 X costs $131 less at the same retailer and comes with a 5-year warranty. Keep using a recalled machine only after you’ve talked it through with your provider. Register it with Philips either way, so you don’t lose your place in the remedy program.
