Buying a CPAP privately in the UK (2026 prices)

3 min read By HHZ Editorial Next review

If you need a private CPAP in the UK, the ResMed AirSense 11 AutoSet is listed at £669 plus VAT on ResMed's UK shop, or £766 plus VAT as a complete package. The AirMini travel machine is listed from £820 plus VAT with a mask. Buyers with sleep apnoea can usually claim VAT relief. Check the NHS route first, because CPAP is free on the NHS if you need it.

In the UK, CPAP is free on the NHS if you need it. So most private buyers are after a second machine, a travel machine or a newer model. This guide uses prices from ResMed’s own UK shop, read on 14 October 2026.

UK prices

ResMed shows these prices “plus VAT”. A buyer who qualifies for VAT relief pays the listed figure. Other buyers add 20%.

Published specifications: the AirSense 11 weighs about 1.1 kg with a 4–20 cmH₂O pressure range. The AirMini weighs about 0.3 kg and has no water tub. It uses waterless HumidX humidification instead.

Running costs and consumables

From the same shop on the same date:

ItemPrice + VAT
HumidAir 11 heated humidifier£79
ClimateLineAir 11 heated tube£32.50
AirSense 11 filters, 2-pack£4.50
AirSense 11 filters, 12-pack£22
AirSense 11 power supply unit£77
HumidX Plus (AirMini), 6-pack£48

Masks cost about £104–£137 + VAT. See CPAP masks in the UK.

Electricity costs little. At the Ofgem price cap of 26.32p per kWh (October to December 2026, Direct Debit average), every 100 W drawn for 8 hours costs about 21p. A CPAP’s draw rises with humidification and a heated tube.

AirSense 11 or AirMini?

  • AirSense 11 is the bedside machine. It has a water-tub humidifier option (HumidAir 11) and costs less.
  • AirMini is for travel. It is very light, but there’s no water tub and the bundle price is higher. Buy one only if you travel often. The CAA says airlines don’t guarantee in-flight power, so check before you fly (see flying with CPAP or oxygen).

Before you buy

  • Check the NHS route. It is free if you need CPAP. Use our NHS CPAP guide.
  • Use your prescribed pressure. Ask your sleep clinic for your settings, or whether to use auto mode.
  • Claim VAT relief at checkout, not afterwards. ResMed’s shop says it can’t refund VAT paid in error.

The verdict

For a private bedside machine, the AirSense 11 AutoSet at £669 + VAT is the default. Buy an AirMini bundle (from £820 + VAT) only as a travel second unit. Either way, claim VAT relief if you have sleep apnoea.

Frequently asked questions

How much is an AirSense 11 in the UK?
ResMed's UK shop listed the AirSense 11 AutoSet at £669.00 plus VAT and the complete device package at £766.00 plus VAT on 14 October 2026.
Is the AirMini cheaper than the AirSense 11?
No. ResMed's UK shop sells the AirMini in bundles with a mask, from £820 plus VAT. The AirSense 11 machine alone is £669 plus VAT.
How much electricity does a CPAP use?
Less than a home oxygen concentrator. At the October–December 2026 price cap of 26.32p per kWh, every 100 W used for 8 hours a night costs about 21p a night. A CPAP draws less than that, and more with the humidifier and heated tube on.
