This guide is written from Health NZ’s long-term CPAP therapy in Canterbury Waitaha page, read on 14 October 2026. Each region runs its own sleep service, so ask yours about local rules.
Canterbury example
- After a successful CPAP trial through Christchurch Hospital Sleep Health Services, you keep the machine to use long term.
- Sleep Health Services sets the pressure. Use CPAP every time you sleep. If you are not using it, you will be asked to return it.
- Take the machine on holiday and into hospital with you.
Masks
If you have hospital-funded CPAP, you are eligible for one replacement mask a year. More often than that, you may need to pay. Health NZ names USL Medical, Cansleep and Sleep Well Clinic as places to buy masks. For retail mask prices, see CPAP masks in New Zealand. They cost $229–$300 on 14 October 2026.
Driving and pilot checks
Some people need a medical review under NZTA (driving) or CAA (aviation) guidelines, which may include checking CPAP usage. Health NZ says these people are given a cloud-connected machine and asked to download a monitoring app.
Buying privately
If you don’t qualify, or don’t want to wait, the AirSense 11 AutoSet cost from NZ$1,875 at Awakenz to $2,199 on ResMed’s NZ shop on 14 October 2026. ResMed’s shop also lists a $35 CPAP trial of the AirSense 11 AutoSet; the listing doesn’t say how long that covers. See CPAP machine prices in New Zealand.
